Where do you workout now Jen?
This Y is going through a big change right now. The whole facility will be renovated, starting this spring. I like the current atmosphere, but I'm looking forward to the brand new facility.
P.S. I noticed someone made a comment on here about the Y in the Merivale Mall. It's been completely remodeled and is now AMAZING!
This gym recently spent a small fortune on new weighttraining equipment ( both machines and free weights ) but neglected to put in a new ventilation system it can be very warm in the summer. No floor supervision, some volunteer unqualified staff. I can't speak for the women's change facilities, but the men's regular membership bathrooms are disgustingly dirty there are flies living in the bathroom stalls! There are broken doors, broken lights, broken shelves, broken lockers, broken showerheads. While I applaud the Y's mandate to make access available to everyone, this also means that there are thefts from lockers and even though there are rules of conduct, I've only ever seen one employee enforce them IF you complain. What I Do like about the Metro Center Y is that it is very large, and unless it's very busy you don't have to wait very long for equipment.

I have belonged to this gymn on Merivale Rd. for two years now. It is filthy. Sometimes they do not even have soap at the sinks. I have even caught a skin rash off of the toilets twice. For the High price that they charge something should be done about this facility. The people at the desk are very lazy. Also there seems to be only water in the bottles to clean equipment. Members are also bad because they do not clean their sweat off of the equipment. This is inexcusable. They should know better and should be told. If you complain at the desk they do not care. I gave the girl a chance to convince me to stay on as a memaber but she did not care enough to do so. Trainers are very inexperienced and do not have any nutritional experience and their workouts are very basic at best. Someone in my family made helfty donations to the YMCA and I am appalled at the conditions. Where do these donations go!!

After just completing an entire week (5 days resistance, 1 day cardio and 1 day of active rest) at this Y, I have nothing but compliments to share. Friendly, knowledgeable staff...ALL NEW EQUIPMENT in the resistance (~5060 new machines)...cardio area has touch screen TV's...pool area is monitored and includes a 4lane lap pool with a whirlpool...change rooms are well maintained and day lockers are available...free classes for members...large gymnasium with bball and other equipment...and the list goes on. Could you possibly think of anything else you would want? Oh yea! Very reasonable membership prices with no annual contract and access to 6 other locations throughout Ottawa Area! I think we have a winner. Check it out for yourself; I doubt you will be disappointed!

This Gym And It Managment Suck , Theres No Access For The Handicap Person
Unfriendly staff, not properly educated about the latest equipment, on the upside, the membership is inexpensive.
This gym is a maze. It is right downtown and it started out as an office building. Lots of equipment though.
