The staff are often nowhere to be found. Kids (810 y/o) well under the minimum age wandering around weight and cardio rooms, using equipment and staff do not seem to care. Equipment is gross. Some is new, but the older equipment has earsplitting squeaks which means NO ONE is checking it or fixing it. Straps on cardio equipment worn out, ineffective or missing altogether. And senior management is so in love with themselves that when you mention problems, it's always "the first time they ever heard of this" yet, months go by and nothing changes.

When it comes to YMCA GTA on Grosvenor I only use their membership plus facility which is like a spa within YMCA and worth every penny! You get a private training facility with all the ammenities that a private spa has for approximately $100 (June 2010) a month membership that you can cancel any time within 14 days. Tell me where else in this city, especially downtown, you will get this type of service for that amount of money? I love their staff, facilities, and what they stand for. Highly recommend their membership plus. Go get a free tour!

I cut (open wound resulting in a huge bump) my shin too once on the AMT machine but they were very quick to bandage me up but what is upsetting to me is often parents are allowed to let their kids frolic and play on the equipment as if they are toys and the staff just don't say anything and if me an adult can have an accident imagine a small child ... at the risk of sounding like a grinch ... small children should not be allowed in the workout room just like adults are not allowed in the pool during their time

I just got back today from the central YMCA and i got my eye cut from faulty equipment. My glasses flew off my face, and no one was willing to check on me whatever or not i was ok. I had to go to the personal trainer myself to get a bandaid for a small cut. I addressed the issue to one of the staff members, and they told me it was my fault for hurting myself. I told them the handlebars needed to be fixed or else someone else would be seriously hurt. They said I was the first person who got injured using the machine despite the fact the handlebars had problems for many years. I very upset that the problem wasn't addressed in a friendly manner, and i'm not planning to go back to that YMCA in that location until that problem is fixed

Best deal in Toronto. Community feel, people of all abilities. If staff are not knowledgeable it's because they are volunteering their time. New green roof in the works. Month to Month membership that can be canceled at anytime. Much better than extreme fitness where they are trying to upsell you personal training and that lock you in a contract forever.

Very friendly supportive vibe. A lot of people who have lost major weight including myself. 120Lbs so far. Numerous disabled, elderly and special needs people. All accommodated.

I just find the gym has the heat on too high and it makes it very uncomfortable to work out ... as soon as the temps outside dip they crank it up on high

the staff is friendly, however, a lot of times they do not know what to do because there is a lack of training
I don't think they are paid very well

but I love the Y and think it is the best bang for your buck especially in an expensive city like Toronto

I was discriminated against for having a disability. In fact, they took my membership from me on that basis. I was harassed and bullied by their staff; mocked for my disability and then when i advocated for myself, had my membership revoked. These people are not what they propogate themselves to be. Sadly, a very hurtful experience for me.
