Cost of membership: fine
Pros: great location; Chris keeps the place going!
Cons: the rules are not enforced (e.g., cellphones)
Thoughts: I suggest the young people who need to sit on the equipment between sets consulting with the important Tweets their friends are sending them while they work out should leave their phones in the locker room.

The best gym in the city is (and why): The Y are supposed to represent a caring and accepting environment. Colleen and the other staff are nice but Christopher Davies is a monster. I volunteered there thinking I was helping and he treated me like a slave. When I hurt myself he didn't ask how I was but chastised me for missing a shift. Most people dread seeing him and I'm told if you tell the manager Tom he tells you to look for another gym. I don't know why this goes on but please do something for your members and staff.st gym in the city is (and why):

Cost of membership:
My husband and I have a couple membership for 700.00 which is regular cost.
Pros:It is the YMCA which is about the community and it does really important things to enrich it. Like the fact that there is no owner getting rich and staff getting commissions to sell me. Everything is no pressure. Very well set up. Excellent strength training equipmentbest in the City.
Cons:
Thoughts: I like the fact that it is comfortable, staff are really nice and it has the best fitness equipment and some specialty classes for me. Also the Playcare childminding is amazing for my little one with huge climbing structures!!

If you are looking for serious strength training facility the Nepean Y gets my vote. New athletic weight lifting equipment, no hassle of upselling and personal training sales like at Goodlife. The Y isn't the place to be seen or gimmicky and I like that!

To start off, all you people who are criticizing the "young muscle heads" should go to a kids playground and work out there. I find that the adults (26+) walk around the gym thinking they own everything and can control everyone. Also, a lot of them just throw used paper towels on the ground (the younger people don't really use them...). You are right about the staff though, they never tell anyone to put their weights away and just walk around, talking to other members/staff.
I've been going there for 3 years. The place was fine until florida fitness went bankrupt and all it's people came to the Y, creating a huge crowd in the weightlifting area. I almost want to switch gyms because of that.
Anyways, I'm gonna come in a tank top and show all you "older folks" that anyone that puts their mind to weights, will have muscle and SHOULD show off their progress in the gym. LIFT HEAVY!

The Nepean Y is amazing now... Best fitness facility in town for athletic training and conditioning. All new developmental Hammerstrength and power racks/heavy duty platforms. Great atmosphere. Great staff. I shouldn't say all these things because it will get too busy with new members!!

Wow, they just upgraded to all new HAMMER machines, new weights, benches, etc. 5 specialized multisquat/bench platforms with wood flooring.
Removed that awful 100m running track
Changerooms are being rennovated.
Currently the newest and best gym on the west side.
I tried the Huntclub Goodlife but its so small and cramped compared to the Merivale Y. Also there are no douchebag trainers and Lululemon headtotoe girls.
airconditioned
not busy at all
's
prolly going to get a lot busier
No personal TV monitor in the cardio machines, just watch overhead monitors
They play annoying radio music, not too loud, like Goodlife
Goodlife does have better workout studio/classes

Too many muscle boys in the weightlifting area. Younger guys not putting weights away. NO supervision in the gym, no enforcement of the rules. Overall the place is dirty, the men's washroom is gross, the change area dirty, the floors and carpets in the gym are nasty. equipment is fair to middling. Too many staff hanging around the desk and not enough in the gym.

I once went to a norther private gym in the east end as a company perk(free). I came back to my friends at the Y. They care for their community. I love them.
Kate Johnson is wonderful. She is a huge asset to the Y.

Too many muscle heads in the weight training area. The machines are OLD. Too many irresposible people not putting the weightts away. Too much swearing! Younger members don't clean the equipment after use. I think the bodybuilders run the place ans management is too weak to enforce the rules!!!

Great Price. Located in the center of the Merivale Mall, this gym geared towards 7-15 years of age.
