Thoughts: I am less than impressed when a group fitness class instructor does not show up for yogafit. I did not not leave in a zen state of mind. This along with a whole host of other issues from general lack of cleanliness, installation of more equipment restricting movement around the gym, as well as past issues with air conditioning, broken sauna(for weeks), no refills on soap and shampoo in showers, towels thrown around on floor in shower area, and the list goes on. Is this what an expensive gym membership pays for?? What is management doing to solve these issues so that going to a local gym becomes remotely enticing?
The best gym in the city is (and why):

Pros: The only 24h Goodlife in St. John's (although it is way out at the Village Mall hardly central), fairly large so even when crowded still lots of equipment
Cons: Probably the dirtiest gym in Newfoundland. Seldom have clean towels (why am I paying a towel surcharge again?)
Thoughts: I wouldn't go here if there were other Goodlife locations open late. The facilities are decent but the place tends to be a bit gross/icky.

Cost of membership: $50/month
Pros: Of all of the Good Life Fitness gyms in the greater St. John's area, this one has the most equipment.
Cons: Good Life at the Village Mall which is always crowded, the staff is rude and unfriendly, and most people who train in the free weight room there are bodybuilders who are on steroids and are inconsiderate of others. They make people feel uncomfortable if they are not as strong as them (naturally or via steroid use) and they aren't very sanitary and don't wipe their benches or equipment. It is a very uncomfortable atmosphere.
Thoughts: If you are not a bodybuilder who is on steroids, this is not the gym for you. Good Life should do something about the rampant steroid use here.
The best gym in the city is (and why): YMCA is cleaner, has nicer staff, a friendly clientele who is considerate and there are no steroid users. They have more than just weights and cardio as well.
