Caution to future members!!! This company may charge you unjustified fees long after you’ve canceled your membership!!!

Please be careful when dealing with Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga—my experience has caused significant inconvenience, financial damage, and harm to my credit. I strongly advise that you stay away from this gym! Extremely Disappointed with Unjustified Charges and Poor Customer Service

I joined Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga in 2021 for a oneyear membership, which I decided to cancel later that year. I visited the gym in person to complete the cancellation process, and an male employee assisted me to complete the cancellation process. No further payments were made, and I was not informed of any additional charges at that time.

However, I was shocked to find a unpaid charge from Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga reported on my credit report this year. Upon reviewing my bank statements, I found no corresponding payments made to the gym since my membership cancellation in 2021. I had received no communication from the gym about any outstanding balance or attempts to resolve the matter before it was sent to collections.

When I contacted the gym, the administrative manager explained that the charge was for a membership fee covering the period from December 2023 to April 2024—over three years after I had canceled my membership. I was then asked to provide a cancellation receipt from three years ago as proof of my cancellation, which I find unreasonable. I was assured the matter was resolved when I canceled in person, and it is unrealistic to expect consumers to retain such documentation for years.

Moreover, I have not received any notifications via mail, phone, or email regarding these charges, which I believe violates consumer protection laws. Businesses are required to notify customers before reporting debts to collection agencies or credit bureaus, and I was not given the opportunity to dispute the charge before it impacted my credit. I also asked the manager to provide evidence of any notifications or attempts to contact me regarding the charges before they were sent to collections. His response was that he had NO PROOF of any such communication. This lack of evidence further supports my belief that the charges are unjustified and that I was not given proper notice as required by law

In addition to addressing this directly with the company, I have filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and initiated legal dispute proceedings. I am also reaching out to others who may have had similar experiences with Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga. If you have faced unjustified charges or poor customer service after canceling your membership, I encourage you to share your experience and join me in pursuing this matter further. The more voices we have, the stronger our case becomes in holding the company accountable for their unfair practices.

I would give a zero. Never been a member at gym that doesn not open on long wekends. This gym is all about the $$ and does not help you if you are going through a challenging time. I asked if they would help me find a kin/active rehab and was told yes and they kept stringing me along and taking money out of my account since Jan. Every time I call they say they will look into it and have ben giving me the run around. I found a kini'and she said that she was told she would have to pay a lot of "rent" monthly to work with me at this gym and it is was not feasible. Since I am on disability assistamce I could not afford my membership and a nonprofi offered to help. This business has beeing taking money even though I have not used the gym since Jan and during Covid when they were closed. Today the owner called me from a private number and wIhen I asked correspondence in writing, he hung up on me. Shame on you for being so unprofessional and having no compassion or understanding.

Pros:clean! The owners are very in tune with membership needs and are constantly adding new equipment, trading out things that don't seem to be popular, adding in new classes from YOGA, PERSONALIZED TRAINING, SPINNING CYCLING CLASSES AND HIGH ENERGY CARDIO .I take the Monday spinning classes and they are really a great, great workout! The instructor is absolutely fantastic! Energetic, very Knowledgeable, and really gives it her all. You can burn some serious calories in her class, and it has helped me become a better road cyclist ( long distance and short) The overall trainers are all excellent..whether working with older or younger members. There are no "sub mediocre" training programs. Each program is truly designed for the individual. If you like high temp programs try the BOXERFIT OR MONDAY SPINNING CYCLE CLASSES. Both instructors are in tune, professional, and take an interest in each individual, whether you are a beginner or elite. Ron Zalko Fitness is centrally located in the heart of Kitsilano, so location is key. There is parking underground, and in the streets around the gym. The hours are convenient for me and there is no waiting whatsoever for using the equipment. Ron Zalko staff are also on the ball constantly making sure the equipment is put back properly, wiped down and clean for the next member to use. Even Ron Zalko himself gets his hands dirty, and he isn't afraid to wipe down equipment or wash the bathroom floor if needed...a truly genuine caring business owner! He is also open to member comments and ideas...and is on site daily. This is truly a fitness facility that is world class and stands behind it's long standing reputation for being one of the best in the industry!. Thank you Ron Zalko Fitness and Staff! Priscilla A

Cons: It may make you craze mentally, for sure that it is not good for my health, specially mentally, check google's early views. If you need to know why, you may check the owner's background and original cultures.
I will say that it is my worst nightmare, the worst gym I ever visited all over the world.

The best gym in the city is (and why): YOGA STUDIO CLASSES OUTSTANDING! SPINNING CLASSES OUTSTANDING! A true local gym with a better and friendlier vibe than corporate/franchise gyms! The owner of Ron Zalko's and staff are friendly and helpful, the machines are clean, the weights are well organized, and there's free towel service. I've been a member for over two years and have never had to wait in line for a machine or weight. I love the spinning classes( Monday, Wednesday classes outstanding with good specific energized music). And...Yoga classes, one of a kind and very unique. I've gotten to know all the staff, owner, Ron Zalko, and many of the regulars and can honestly say they're all great people and make Ron Zalko Fitness a great place to work out. Pros: Friendly people (staff and members), clean machines, organized weights, little to no wait times for equipment, wide variety of equipment for almost any type of real exercise you'd like to do, decent pricing. State of the art music. Cons: I can't really think of any! This is the gym I compare other gyms to. What it lacks in some machinery and fad equipment it makes up for in environment and overall quality of experience. I give this fitness gym 5 stars, and I love it! Savannah Point Grey

The best gym in the city is (and why): Wow what a difference, the gym was just renovated and it looks amazing, like a brand new club! I used to be a member at Ron Zalko's but I moved away, and now that I'm back in Kits I rejoined. They've got a great atmosphere and equipment, and they've added a lot of new yoga classes. I got a great deal on the membership so it was definitely worth joining again.

I've been an RZ member for quite a few years now, and there are a number of basic reasons I keep choosing this club over all the others...
There are a lot of things I especially love about this gym....
It is so much bigger, brighter, cleaner and better equipped than most of the other gyms that I have tried around Vancouver.
I love the size of the gym and the outstanding variety and quality of equipment, and there are so many windows that even on a rainy Vancouver day, it gives me a bit of a lift when I'm working out. : )
There are so many different classes included in the basic member price and I hope they always keep the original aerobic classes, too. : )
I particularly love the 'Ladies Only' area, especially on those days I can hardly drag my butt in and just want to hide out.. : )
Management can be sticky about rules like bringing a small towel for sweat hygiene and quick wiping machines after use I try to remind myself it's for everyone's benefit.
All in all, when I compare it to all the others around town I think it's the best. : )

The best gym in the city is (and why):
I am not big on lifting weights, but do like Aerobic, Yoga, and Pilates Classes. I believe RZ has the best range of these group exercise classes in town and that's the main reason I have been a member of this gym for a long time. I like it too that the facility is ALWAYS clean and tidy. As well, I find having a "Women Only" area very considerate of the owner and I enjoy the quietness of it while doing my short afterclass additional exercises there. Like the gym's brightness and spaciousness. Definitely check it out!

The best gym in the city is (and why): I lost 12 lbs at Ron Zalko Fitness and this was the first summer I couldn't wait to shop for a bikini! Their staff are so helpful and friendly, now I always look forward to my workout. They have the best variety of classes, from cardio to yoga and you can tell the instructors really enjoy teaching. I would recommend this gym to anyone looking to lose weight or maintain their shape, even if they are beginners. There is no easier place to get started. The only thing missing is towels and water, and that's not something I want to pay extra for anyways, I'll bring my own!

The best gym in the city is (and why): The Ron Zalko Fitness Full Body Transformation really works! I lost 10 lbs in 7 weeks and have never felt better! Their unique program and classes are the best in the city and their personal trainers and staff are friendly and professional. I have tried other gyms and have never had these kind of results. I did my first Yoga class here and the instructor was so kind and helpful I didn't feel like an inflexible idiot. My only complaint is that they close at 6 PM on the weekend, and I would prefer to work out in the evenings.

I wish they had a sauna though, but on the other hand a sauna will not get you in shape and the downtoearth people make up for it.

The best gym in the city is (and why): I recently rejoined Ron Zalko Fitness after moving back to Vancouver and I was impressed at all the new equipment and renovations. They changed some classes and added lots of yoga and pilates which are included in your membership. The best part of the gym is the huge windows, it's nice to work out with a view and some sunshine, even in the women's only area which has a full setup of weight training equipment (I like the option of being able to do some exercises in the womens only and some in the coed area).

The best gym in the city is (and why):
This is by far the best gym in Vancouver and I wish I had tried it out sooner! They have the best variety of classes and instructors, and since you don't have to sign in to the classes, you don't have to go an hour early to get your spot. The studio is massive (I'm pretty sure they can fit 60 people in there) and there are huge windows so you get lots of natural light. Actually the whole gym has floor to ceiling windows so you don't feel like you're working out in someone's basement. There are so many machines and never a wait time for anything. When I'm there right after work (usually the busiest time) I have no problem getting on machines because there are so many. And the prices! I was used to paying more than double for my membership at the community centre, I couldn't believe how much more affordable it is to work out at a fitness centre that had way better equipment and classes!

Just had to cancel my gym membership with Ron Zalko's due to lost income and the need to make cut backs. When I spoke to a staff memeber about canceling they informed me that i had to come in on Monday to talk to someone else about cancelling and that I need to provide 30 days prior notice to cancelling. I then come in on Monday to cancel my membership and was told that I have to come back at 1:00pm and hopefully the "cancellation officer" will be there to do that. Holy cow, I better take the next day or two off and hopefully meet with the "cancelation officer". I was then told that they will continue to bill me past my year membership if I don't cancel as per the fine print that was not explained to me when I originally joined. Why is it that some business owners feel they need to punish or make life hard on their customers. I wasn't even planning on joining another gym.
