Gym Overall Review Score
Reviewer: Joanne Y
Cost of membership: 337.87
Thoughts: I joined Beaches Family Fitness Toronto, Ontario in March 2013 and the total cost was paid on my Visa on March 18/13. I went away for a period of time and when I returned the gym was closed. Who do I contact about reimbursement?
Cost of membership: THIS PLACE HAS GONE OUT OF BUSINESS ...AGAIN!

Reviewer: Jason S
Cost of membership: decent.
Cons: terrible management and customer service.
Thoughts: I hope this business tanks.
The best gym in the city is (and why): Goodlife Fitness at 137 Yonge. Huge selection of equipment.
Cost of membership:
Cons:idiots work there
The best gym in the city is (and why): This gym is by far the WORST... Watch your payments they take extra and don't refund it back.
Cost of membership:$32.00+/month
Pros: On the subway line
Cons: Nothing to look forward to. Dirty, always excuses when I have complaints.
Thoughts: Have changed names numerous times, now is called Beaches Family Fitness. Different people behind the counter and desk, but I think they are just a different relation to the previous management. Bunch of scum
The best gym in the city is (and why): Ithink the Y and Variety Village are probably the best. No shenanigans. Straight up and honest.
As a member since 2006 who is now leaving, I give this gym an F only because lower grades don't exist. It's consistently gone downhill every month, very observable.
First, the hours are grossly irregular. The gym is often closed during its regular operating hours, with obviously false handwritten signs taped up in the doorway. Today I write instead of working out because the gym was closed and the sign said it was due to a power outage despite ALL THE LIGHTS BEING ON INSIDE!!! Employees play hooky and management doesn't care.
Entire place is dirty and minimally maintained. The weights are all scattered or missing because no staff is willing to rerack them. More equipment is broken than is working. Upselling is brutal, they almost won't take no for an answer when it comes to personal training. The instructors, especially the boxing instructor, are so toxic and abrasive as peeople they cannot do their jobs effectively. And they constantly change the rules, making customers sign out keys and such to use the facilities. Have also had to correct their mistakes several times with their slipshod billing.
The crowds are OK, and the place is fairly farge and nicelooking. Location is great. But it has a long, long, long way to go, and it will never improve as the management clearly doesn't give a bird's turd about anything. Take a pass, you can find a better gym, I guarantee it.
Cost of membership:It's cheaper than many places but the constant upselling makes it almost not worth the cheap price
Pros: Not really anything
Cons: Constantly being bothered by the staff saying that your doing things wrong and then telling you that you should get a trainer is extremely annoying. When I wanted to cancel my membership after the terrible machinery and dirty look it took forever. Even when I got my membership the hour that it took me just to get a basic membership because the manager continued to belittle me was a sign that this is a terrible gym.
Thoughts: Despite being a good price this gym is the worst experience I have ever had. Do not get a membership here it is terrible.
The best gym in the city is (and why): Definitely not the best gym.
Cost of membership:$370
Cons: I have been a member of Premier since 2004, when i lived in a different city. I moned to the area and this location is the most convenient location for me, as I do not drive. I cancelled my memgership in January of 2011, after numerous oomplaints about the state of the equipment, which was often broken. I recently joined again as I could not find a better location within walking distance. I explained to the staff prior to joining this time, that I have a visual impairment and need to enter the gym from the ladies side (entering from the main entrance requires a member to walk through the cluttered main gym which I cannot do without bumping into equipment). The staff told me that they did not have staff to cover the female side of the gym, but would be hiring by September, at which point, they would be able to keep the female side open. The staff told me that whenever I attended the gym, to go to the main reception and someone would unlock the door to the ladies side. My first visit to the gym, I did exactly that, however was told that they could not unlock the door as it was broken. I explained about my visual impairment and the diffioculty I have walking through the cluttered main gym area. To date, the door has not been repaired, there are no staff covering the ladies half and I am forced to walk through the main area. The last time I went to the gym, I walked into a piece of equipment. Please, for once, could the staff live up to their promises and get the staff or fix the door so that I, and others do not have to be incovenienced. Going for a workout should not cause a person to be anxious about struggling to get into the facility. I feel that I was made empty promises so that they could get me to rejoin.

The best gym in the city is (and why):the worst worst gym i ever had,the staff doesnt know how to handle complaint, not friendly, rude, they always tell you "can i call you back?"they should hire employee who knows how to talk to the clients.PLS PLS DONT JOIN THIS GYM,THEY ONLY WANTS MONEY!POOR SERVICE,ONCE YOU SIGNED UP THEY JUST IGNORING YOU ,THEY DOESNT CARE,STUPID!!!!!!
Cost of membership: Pretty low now adays if you stand your ground. But they are notorious for doubledipping and losing cancellation forms. So ensure you get a paper if you cancel because they will continue to charge your account and getting a refund isn't easy.
Pros: Depending on the day...you get get a pretty good deal...but you still get what you pay for. Compared to Goodlife or Extreme you will have an easier time getting a deal...pay cash and NEVER give them your banking info.
Cons: Most machines are missing the pin. Cable machines lay snapped on the floor half the time which is risky and makes me wonder what happened to the person who made the cable snap...like how old are these machines? The cardio equipment is all old and half broken. PS this is your problem, not theirs. Trainers have no idea how to train for function or weight loss, they focus on showing you ways to isolate muscles with redundant exercises that wont actually help you get in shape any quicker. You either get someone who's good but quits in a month, or you get another trainer who's okay but quits in a month. Worst case you get some 18 year old volunteer who isn't really a trainer.
Thoughts: There is no business plan that would improve Premier Fitness, most of the managers need serious therapy to deal with their overly dominant and competitive personalities. There is no place for this when dealing with paying customers. They should also learn to stop double charging...not fulfilling cancellations and continuing to draw money from your account...They need to get a grip on how they treat their staff because no one seems to stay long enough and MANY have told me they never know when their real pay date is.

The best gym in the city is (and why): Curves
Curves gives the best workout in 30 minutes!! It offers cardio as well as strength training. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It is clean, fun, fast and safe. Reasonably priced. A coach at every workout!
Management is extremely uncooperative and not helpful at all.
The cardio machines are often broken, the ceiling is constantly leaking, and its pretty much an all around unpleasant experience. Travel further for a better experience! DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE!!!
This is the worse gym I have ever been to. If the sacale of rating have negative, I would rate them 10 for the customer service, friendliness and payment plan. They only nice to you when you have not join, or considering to join, and just sign up. After you become their members, their true nature all shown up. No one there to help you out, your concern is not their problem, rather everything is YOUR FAULT. The place is small, broken machines take forever to get fixed.
I cancelled my membership, I still got charge. I reasoned with them, they claimed it never been done no record of it. DON'T JOIN THIS GYM. If you really want to join, don't trust them about the limited time offer, the offer has no end day just have to ask. Also don't give them your bank account and/or credit card information you will be continue get charge even if you cancel the membership like me. PAY IN CASH!!!!!!
Cost of membership: Entirely too high, they get every penny out of that they can... not a pleasant experience at all. They trick people in to thinking its the last day of a sale even with a "1 day left!" sign in front of the facility, you go back and that sign is out there everyday with 1 day left for weeks.
Pros:separate women's facility, parking is free, and yoga ( and other activities) are included in membership prices.
Cons: The entire place is a con, the facility is terrible to look at, it seems pretty dangerous, the 'assessment' that they charge you $100 for that you can't get back isn't anything.. they make you sit on a stationary bike until you get your heart rate up so high.. sometimes that doesn't work, do they care of the bike doesn't work or what your heart rate was? No. The employees and other members aren't very friendly and this place just left a huge sour taste in my mouth, I also had to wait almost a year for my tiny $18 refund... yes, I paid a lottttt more than $18.
Thoughts:I would stay away from this place completely, it isn't worth any money spent on it.

I've been at this gym for years. Recently there's been some TERRIBLE short comings.
1. They've built a new women's locker room (great) which is 80% completed and just left it like that as being 'done'. The job completed is sub par and things are already falling apart in addition to there being no hot water (not so great).
2. All the good staff (mostly) have up and left. Rumors are PF is not good at paying their staff nor treating their staff as valuable employees. As a result I've seen a constant revolving door of new staff members who don't stick around for long (probably once they realize they don't get paid!). All new staff look like they're fresh out of high school/college which to me equates to less experience.
3. The area this gym is located in is a little shady. As a result, some of the members are not exactly what you would call clean (re: previous post on stinky members). I guess some cultures just don't prioritize personal hygiene and this place is a festival for germs. Not to mention lazy cleaning staff who spend more time talking to themselves then actually getting their job done. Oh and they also don't speak english.
3. Payment disputes I haven't had any expect for being double billed one time. But I have a friend who bought training (loves it) but has been overcharged multiple times. Not a fault of the location, but obviously head office (tied into employee's not getting paid? probably).
DO NOT JOIN THIS FACILITY. Terrible Management, they do not return calls, there is never anyone in the gym to show you equipment or answer questions and I am not sure they have qualified personal trainers. joining in October 2010 with personal training services and am trying to get my money refunded

DO NOT JOIN THIS FACILITY. Their staff is inadequate, they do not return calls, there is never anyone in the gym to show you equipment or answer questions and I am not sure they have qualified personal trainers.
I have had a nightmare of an experience since joining in August with personal training services and am trying to get my money refunded.

Their classes are o.k. Their equipment is is lousy condition. I was hit in the head with a handle from one of the toning machines because it was broken. I was told to stop trying to blame someone and get over it. Have registered a complaint with Safety council of Canada and will continue to persue this.
this gym sucks, stupid clients that stink and dont put their weights back and the trainers all suck and think they are mr. bodybuilders. women trainers are idiots also.stupid cleaners too that cant do there job properly.A LOT of equipment has been broken for years !!
THIS PLACE IS A DUMP!!! AVOID! Some staff rude to the point of hostility, terrible management, fitness assessment is a scam, place is FILTHY.

My contract was for only one year. Premier Fitness attempted to bill me after my contract expired .... Fortunately, I put a stop payment and then instructed the bank to shut down my account.
3 months later, they send a threatening letter claiming that I owe them 3 months worth of services.
THIS GYM IS A FRAUD!

Dangerous place to exercise. Not for families or children. This place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Exercise machines aren't repaired and are dangerous. Treadmill/bike area is a rat's nest of cords and cables, just begging to be tripped over. Waterfountain is usually flooded, so too many people slip on the floor. Changerooms are a pig sty. No soap in bathroom dispensers. Hot water doesn't work. Lockers broken and rusty so you can't hang decent clothes in them. Staff will not address complaints (and I have complained). Stay, stay, away. Much better options like System Fitness in the Beaches.
Location is central and ample parking. Staff are average and trainers are okay. Equipment is average but tends to break down a lot and no be repaired promptly. The TV's on the the equipment don't work. The overhead TV's are lousy and only get 13 channels. The Men's change room, bathroom, and shower area are an absolute DUMP. The lockers are breaking and dingy. The toilets are disgusting and the showers need a major overhaul if not a full remodelling. The doors on the showers are not repaired and removed when broken and they're very dirty. The locker room smells offensive. If cleanliness is your thing stay away.

Do NOT let Premier get ahold of your banking info, regardless of ease, instead if you MUST, pay cash outright. They will continue to draw from your bank account even with 'written' instructions and verbal confirmations to the contrary. Word to the Wise: The ONLY way to stop their automatic withdrawals is to incur bank charges and use STOP PAYMENTS to halt them. It was the ONLY way I was able to block their access.
This facility is in terrible shape and they seem to never clean anything.
The equipment is aging and it too seems to never get even a wipe down. I would avoid this place.
do not go to this gym. i find the manager kinseologist and some trainers are jackasses. Ryan (manager) is a total jackass, rude and when i asked him questions he was rude and his english is horrible. Avoid this gym at all cost !!! Everything is horrible bad location, bad staff and horrible prices !!!!!!!!!!!
Reviewer: Melody Stevens
overall this facility is pretty damned no frills, equipment is somewhat dilapidated and no hand sanitizer that I have ever seen since being a member there. Staff is sparse and I have yet to see floor staff.
ask to see their degree... kinesiologists
ask the trainers if they are certified
ask the boxing coach if hes a coach
U DONT HAVE A CLUE WHHAT UR TALKIGN ABOUT< ILUBVED MY FITNESS EVALUATION, THOSE guyz ( bachelor of science kinesiology graduates) MADE ME LOOSE 45 lbs and revover from a car accident, i feel greartfull! the staff is very friendly and their head trainer is he best!
i never wait to use machines like i do @ extreem! thast worth its weight in gold, and when i need somehting, they have it, its a real hardcore gym,. not a disco,
if thats not what ur looking for than its not for u!
The fitness assessment is a scam. They tell you your body fat percentage is a LOT higher than it usually is, to sell you their services. And they do this with a straight face. This happened to me twice with them. Apparently according to their staff Sal and Kelly (I think it was Kelly) I'm "skinny fat", ie, I'm made of fat, even though I'm fit and active. Don't let them do this to you, get a second opinion at another gym.
The service is good and the staff are friendly BUT... this place is a DUMP. The men's changeroom smells, the lockers are old and breaking, out of 6 showers in the men's room sometimes only 2 are functioning. The shower doors are taken off and not repaired when they break. None of the equipment TV's work, the over head televisions only get 1 channel and half of them don't work. Equipment is quite often broken and left in dis-repair for weeks on end. The cardio room has plumbing leaks from the bathrooms above in it. You never know qutie WHAT is dripping on the floor if it's from a shower or toilet etc. They have even been without hot water for a week. Not well maintained at all.
This gym will scam your bank account! Do not visit even as a guest or you may also get ripped off 5 years down the road as I am currently experiencing! A word of caution!
