Exercise Questions | Target heart rate

Ok, I'm 40 years old and this makes my max heart rate 180. Which, in turn, makes my fat burning zone (60%) 108 and my cardio zone 135. When I check my heart rate as I'm on the elliptical or treadmill I will stop for a few seconds and check and I'm getting like 156-170 depending on which intrval I just did. I'm checking my pulse as well as using the grips on the maching and I also have a HR monitor that I wear sometimes. Am I crazy? Do you think I should slow down? I'm doing 45 mins and 90% of the time it over 145.

No, you're not crazy... as long as you're clear by your doc, you'll get way better results at 90% vs. 60% at the same time.

220-age = THEORETICAL max heart rate.. doesn't mean that it actually is..

Obviously you have a strong heart to train so long at that time interval. Also try HIIT for a change of pace and an increase in results!
