General Health | Soreness

I know the saying, "No pain no gain", but...I just started back to working out after 20 years of doing little to none. My problem is, I started back doing 3 sets of 25 situps on a situp chair I built 20 years ago and I got so sore afterward, my abs. won't support my body weight. The pain trying to do a situp simply makes the muscle not hold me. What I am getting at is, how long will the soreness last? and is there any way to speed the process up? Thanks!

Thanks PT! Doing much better now thanks. The 96 hours was about right. I like being a little sore, it makes me know I'm working things.

Dear Guest,

There are many ways to help reduce muscle soreness. These include:

Stretching

Cardiovascular Training

Not USING THAT MUSCLE

It should last no more than 96 hours. If it does you probably over did it. Since you have just got back into it after such a long time try and do 1-2 sets and don't go to failure. You are asking to die the next day. PT
