Body Building | Serious soreness pain?

Hello, new here today. Thanks in advance.
When I was 32 (52 now) I joined a gym and worked out 5 days a week for just about a year. When I started I weighed 145 and was 5' 9". Since then, I have done little if any weight training or anything else. I started a few weeks ago walking at a fast pace and have gotten up 2.5 miles per day. I also started situps. I did three sets of 25. There is where my problem began. I got so sore in my abs. that if I get back on the situp chair and start a rep, it's all I can do to keep from falling backwards off the bench. I'm not a wimp, but neither can I stand that pain. It is obviously overworked, but it seems to be taking forever to get better. I feel quite sure there was no actual muscle damage, just over did it. Anyway of getting past this any faster?

The most appropriate way of getting past your soreness is to rest a bit longer (until the soreness is gone completely), and then go back and do your situps, but do less reps. Hope this helps. Good luck.
