Concentrate on the muscles that you are training for lats... grip the bar a little wider than shoulder width thumbs over and imagine your hands are hooks and your arms are levers transfering the resistance to the lats. and imagine squeeseing a tennis ball between your shoulder blades as your pulling downwards.

11/3/2009 1:08:30 AM | I am thinking your problem maybe posture and or form... couple suggestions; less weight (-5lb)lift w/ a weight that offers enough resistance that you can not complete no more than 12 reps but no less than 6 reps. Focus on proper form, use internet for proper lifting techniques, and remember back striaght, shoulders back, head high..
