Nutrition | Iron deficient

I recently had a blood test and they said that I had a low iron count. What ways, besides just taking iron supplements, can I add more iron to my diet?

This is going to sound weird, but it's absolutely true. Buy one of those old cast-iron frying pans and toss out the teflon. I saw a study reported in the paper a while back where people bumped their iron levels just from the traces of raw iron from the pan.

Go easy on the supplements, though - you can cause serious damage by over-doing your iron intake.

Hey don't worry about it,the health problems will come in every one's life ,If you take the proper diet the health will be fit..Iron is important to body,Blood rich in iron produces a soft glowing tint of beauty which is visible just beneath the skin.

Iron is important to the process of respiration.Two-thirds of the iron found in the body is in the blood. If you take the proper diet you dint get any health problems, mostly blackberries, most dark green-leafy vegetables, sea vegetables are very rich in Iron

Iam sorry to hear that you were told that you had low iron count. There are all kind of foods that you can eat that are rich in iron such as Clams, all types of Livers,Oysters, Mussels, Beef, Shrimp, Sardines and Turkey

But there are also food that helps with absorption of iron rich food which are:
1. Fruits: Orange, Orange Juice, cantaloupe, strawberries, grapefruit etc
2. Vegetables: Tomato, tomato juice, potato, green, red peppers Broccoli, brussels sprouts
3. White wine
4. Meat/fish/poultry

Food that do not help with the aborption include:
1. Vegetables: Sweet potato, spinach, chard, rhubarb and beet greens
2. Red Wine, Coffee & Tea
3. Whole grains and bran
4. Soy products
