motivation by far is the most difficult thing to learn to cultivate for working out.
U need to have a system for this. Try out different things that motivate you. Perhaps its watching a swimsuit modelling contest before you work out.
Or perhaps you can journal for a week of working out so that you will have written proof to remind you of the work you have done.

You need to fuel that inspiration that made you started in the first place. If it helps find a weightloss buddy or keep reminding yourself why your doing it. You have to have a daily goal. An activity plan for tomorrow. Well that what's keep me going. I hope you find yours.

Like "I ate too much and now I'm fat, so I have to punish myself by making myself exercise when I'd really rather be doing something else'. That means that any mental image you might have of exercise is a negative one! You don't WANT to go back, you're MAKING yourself go back for punishment!
I believe the only people who will stick to an exercise program are the ones who have found a program they enjoy, and that they'd be doing for fun whether it was 'exercise' or not.
Pumping iron is boring and repetitive. Treadmills are solitary, repetitive and boring. Lane swimming is boring once you get past the point of worrying about drowning. They're all 'good for you' but you have to have a certain mindset to stick with them.
Suggestion: Find something that's fun, like aquafit or a step class, that maybe you can do with a friend or two (or where you can make new ones). If it ain't fun, why bother?

For me, I go to the gym and go on bike rides to help my physical health, I go to school, read, practice yoga, and listen to music to help my mental health, and I study the bible and apply scripture to my life to help my spiritual health. To me, all three work together and need to grow together in order to be "more fit". In my Buddhism class, my professor gave the class a great mental picture when it comes to health: "If you cut off my arm, i am still me, I am still the same person minus an arm. If i Hit my head and forget who I am and who my friends and family are, I am not the same person." I then added to his statement saying "Both the mind and body are lost without the spirit".- I hope this is inspiring

Good for you on the training... I registered 6 months ago and let's just say I will be walking the whole way since I did not put any training time in.
Regardless, I will be meeting up with ladies I've had online contact with for a year and a half and it will be like meeting some new sisters for the first time!!
Good luck on Sunday!!

10/7/2008 3:42:21 PM | Hi, I'm new here, and thought I'd jump right in.
I'm like you - I know the facts, hate the work. I set up a competition with a co-worker and started walking. I thought it might be fun to keep track of my steps, and so bought the Nike+iPod only to discover that it doesn't do steps - but it does everything else.
I saw on the Nike site that you can set up different programs, so I decided to try out their training for a marathon (yeah, I know, start small!) and then put out a challenge for someone to join me. A girlfriend did, and signed up for the marathon right away. I knew there was no way out of it (it included long-distance travel for her, and I also booked a hotel for us early on). I was committed. I've kept up with the training and walk the marathon on Sunday.

Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.
You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.
Low Calorie Diets DON'T WORK.
You won't lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body's fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt --- known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.
Low Carb Plans DON'T WORK.
You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.
What about Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig Dieting Plans?
Weight loss programs such as Weight Watchers (and Jenny Craig) usually involve slower dieting progress over a longer period of time, since such programs generally promise only 2-3 pounds of weight loss per week. Also, programs such as Jenny Craig usually involve buying special meals and/or dietary supplements during the initial phases of the program. While some people may like these types of dietary programs, we prefer a dieting plan which focuses on faster weight loss, such as the Accelerated Fat Burning Program shown below...

9/19/2008 5:43:56 PM | my Biggest inspiration is setting a goal and visualising the rewards of it 1.look good 2.feel good 3.wear clothes that look good 4.be confident
i use to always say i want to lose weight exercise 1 week and go back to being over weight. doing this i gained more.
i told my bro i wanted to lose 52 lbs. but iam not motivated. he said " well, if you want to be skinny isn't that all you need. That is what should motivate you." i thought about it and have started working on my goal lost 5lbs so far.
hope you are inspired. good luck
tip take pictures every now and then. its more motivating than standing on the scale because the inches come off more than the weight at first.when you can see the results you will push harder.

8/24/2008 10:59:43 AM | Hi! I'm new here... just trying to get exercise to be a part of my life (sedentary kid, overweight adult). I dropped 60 lbs last year (not necessarily the "right" way) and am now struggling to keep it off. I may have lost it but it's a fight not to go back to my "old" ways. I too know what to do, but am not getting motivated to get off my butt! I too love the endorphins, but the argument my brain gives to get there is loud and persuasive! Besides hiring a personal trainer who forces you to get off your butt (or having a good friend who will show up at your door when it's convenient for you) it's all a matter of that Nike slogan (just do it) Even while your brain is coming up with excuses and making dang fine points of why it's not a good time to exercise, just get your gear on and start moving.
As for the eating, that is hard. I don't know if I could have lost it the "conventional" way. I did low carb/low fat/low cal but as it's not a sustainable way, there's not true habit-changing happening.
So I'm working on that now.
I am a member at Eating Low with Amy (many people there did the extreme way and are now trying to be healthier about it) but feel I need to find a site more geared to exercising.
But that miserable feeling when shopping for clothes- I don't miss it!! I sure do know I don't want to be over 200 lbs again!!
I sure hope you can find a balance that works for you!
