Weight & Fat Loss |

I am an 18 year old going through college as a police officer. I have a certain fitness level I must maintain. We have certain levels of fitness we must be at to succeed. I am fine as far as cardio goes, but when it comes to being able to do chin ups, well I can't. I am 225 lbs but i don't have a huge gut. I have a larger build. I need to be able to do chin ups. I understand that part of what I must do is to get stronger, but I feel like I need to lose weight, but I don't know how. If anyone has suggestions on how to do so, with tips of eating, exercising etc. I would really appreciate it. I have full access to a gym so any workouts or anything is much appreciated. Thanks

Despite the way it feels, losing weight isn't a mysterious process. It's a simple matter of burning more calories than you eat. But, if it were really that simple, none of us would have a weight problem, would we? Weight loss can be such a struggle that we start thinking we have to do something drastic to see results -- diets, pills or those weird fitness gadgets on infomercials that promise instant success. The true secret to weight loss is this: Make small changes each and every day and you'll slowly (but surely) lose those extra pounds. The key is to forget about instant results and settle in for the long run.

A friend has been treading in waist deep water, keeping hands, arms and feet under water at all times. He started with a few minutes and now is able to tread for an hour or more and never touches the sides or the bottom of the pool. After losing many pounds and developing both muscle and stamina, he claims he will do this until he can no longer safely get in and out of a shallow pool. Never touch bottom works for him. It's a thought.

I know many police offers and firefighters and have trained several of them at my old gym. The fitness testing is tough.

My suggestion is to drop some body fat and at the same time try and increase your strength. You should do some circuit training because you get the benefits of strength training and cardio at the same time. Meaning you'll burn calories and gain strength.

In order to lose weight & gain muscle mass, you need to make shore your eating enough Protein. This will help to burn more calories as well as increase muscle mass. So you will lose the fat & replace it with muscle. Generally guys need approx 150g per day and women 100g per day. If you like you can E-mail me with your height & current weight & I can work it out for you and recommend good protein sources
