Exercise Questions | How much weight to use when exercising

I am using machines (lat pull down, shoulder press, etc.) and also doing other exercises (squats, ball curls, etc.) My question is how do I know how much weight to use on the machines or in my hand weights?

The correct amount of weight will be determined by how many reps you can do. In a normal weight training situation between 8 and 12 reps should be obtained. If you can't do 8 reps, lighten the weight. If more than 12 reps, increase the weight. Also some do 1, 2, and even 3 sets with a 30 second rest in between sets.
