|G'day all. I'm a 38 year old man and I have been working out with a trainer for 3 years 3x/day. I initially joined the gym to lose weight but after 3 years, I'm still at the same weight (235lbs) and my target is about 175lbs. I was hopeful that those workouts would get me there but clearly they won't. I recently swtiched to cardio. My wife is a runner so we have a treadmill in the house. I've only been doing it for a few days but I find that even at a slow run (5.5) I get to max HR in about 0.5 miles and I have to walk to get it down. I understand that it means I am in very bad cardiovascular health but I would like to know how quickly I can expect that to improve. If I get on the treadmill every morning for 30 minutes and do the slow run for as long as possible then walk as needed, should I expect improvement within a few weeks? Months? Should I approach it differently instead of pushing to max HR right off the bat?
I should also mention that I am on a rapid weight loss program now and doing well. Strict low fat diet of about 1000 calories / day, appetite suppressants, weekly B vitamin shots, metabolism boosters, etc.
