Obviously you can't smoke and build muscle; thats why all those really big biker dudes don't smoke, they stand around all day drinking green tea and chatting about yoga exercises.

5/24/2005 12:51:59 PM | I was lifting and smoking for a few months and making some good gains, I got myself to quit smoking and thus my workouts have been more intense now that I can breath alot better. I did start to put on some chunk but I adjusted my diet, changed up my training and now I am gaining at a nice rate. and I feel a million times better for quiting and I don't stink like I've been hovering over a campfire ;)

Well, you can try a circuit program and try a meal plan for our database. This will help somewhat, but there is no reassuance against it. Your metabolism increases when you smoke.. therefore you require less food to maintain. So, you might think you're hungry when you aren't is the basic result. Try going to our weight loss guide and do the analyzer to find out how many calories you should be eating.

2/11/2005 9:42:56 AM | I have a question, but first a comment. I smoke and as of late (probably due to improved diet/more focused cardio routines) have seen improvements in my body (increasing weights as well while lifting). Here's my question: I REALLY want to quit smoking, but I'm genuinely afraid of the notion that smokers who quit pack on the lbs. (not the good ones either). Is there any reassurance against this? What can I do when/if I quit to minimize weight-gain? Thanks!

Your boduy is incredibly resilient-if you are healthy. the person who says it shrinks muscle tissue should get his facts straight. I put my money on observable results anyday. People just don't want you to smoke.

2/27/2004 9:37:28 PM | Unfortunately I still am a smoker. Have been lifting for two years and have kept even with two fellow lifters who have not smoked for alot of years. My muscle gain and weight are almost identical to the non-smoker. Not trying to defend smoking as it is a filthy habit-but you still can gain the muscle!!

Stick to more dumbell work, each arm is forced to pull it's own weight (no pun intended).
