Exercise Questions | Bicycle riding

I quit smoking 2 months ago and gained about 15 pounds mostly in the thighs, butt, and stomach. I have started exercise riding my bike 5 miles every couple days. Is bike riding going to affect these areas where I gained. Are there other exercises for these areas that you suggest?
