First off, please don't call yourself pathetic, because the first thing you need to do in order to better yourself is to LOVE WHO YOU ARE!!! You have to learn to become self-motivated because no one else can make you do something unless you really and truly want to do it! **EATING** When it comes to eating DO NOT starve your body. This will put your body into panic mode and it will think it has to start STORING FAT much like bears do when they have to hibernate. What you may want to try is eating high protein foods and lots of veggies. Try cutting out certain carbs such as pasta, rice, and bread (unless it's whole grain). If you like to eat eggs for breakfast, try only eating EGG WHITES as the yellow part is what is high in cholesterol. Something you may want to consider is eating BIG during breakfast and lunch, and then keeping light during dinner, especially since most of your calories are burned during the day, so you will need the extra energy. MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!--DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!! It is FREE! Try to cut out soda and all sugary/artificial drinks...they will just collect around your waistline! If you must drink juice, make it real fruit juice and limit it to 1 glass per day. **EXERCISE** You do not have to start off excessive. Since you are a beginner, and you have some knee and back problems, trying doing some simple arm curls and shoulder raises using some water bottles or soup cans. If you are standing up, always keep your knees slightly bent and try to remain upright with your abs tight. Do about 3-4 sets of say 8-10 reps each, and do higher reps the stronger you get. For your legs, try sitting upright in a chair (if you can get a exercise ball, even better!)with your knees bent and do simple leg raises. Do 4 sets of 10 reps on each leg. You can even march in place or do some side to side or straight on kicks while watching tv...anything to get your heart rate up! As you become stronger, you can try more difficult exercises which will challenge your body even more which in turn will help you strengthen your core, gain more muscle mass, burn calories, and lose the weight! All the best and don't give up!!!!
P.S - I'm a mommy of two and I work full-time...so if I can find time to do it, so can you!

I think weight loss pills do not work. However, diet and exercise do work but sometimes you need to do a few more things before you do so, because certain things can sabotage any effort that you put it.
Cheers

I found this workout, and my doctor totally approved. It's a full body SEATED workout. If you can't buy equipment, be creative. A pair of pantyhose makes a great tension band, a rolled up towel will suffice for a medicine ball, cans filled with coins or rocks are as good as dumbbells. The important thing is that you are exercising, but within your limitations. You'll be stronger, and more enthusiastic, before too long, and can move on. GOOD LUCK!

The best exercise for each body type at the right time, a pyramid style of calories ingested during a day, the correct macro nutrient ratio for each meal and meal frequency are more examples of timing which can boost fat loss without the necessity of reducing calorie intake, with the right timing you can tap into stored fat much quicker.

Most jobs are farming and the most excitment around here is a old dirty strip club. haha but enough of that. As a junior in highschool i was about 45 pounds overweigh, it eats at you pretty bad. I would try a few things but wouldnt stick with them because i would get discouraged if i didnt see imediate results. this went on for a few years untill finally i got sooo fed up.
SIMPLY: no matter what pills you take you will not effectivly loose weight unless you put out energy to burn fat. i have gone down the diet pill road many times and did not end pretty. SOme made me sick and some would make me faint b/c of the caffine jults.(wouldnt recomend diet pills)
MY SOLOUTION: I understand you cant do alot of exersize b/c of muscular probloms BUT i bet that if you grin and bear it those back probloms may improve after a month or two of regular exersize. I had chronic back pain and come to find out it was b/c of weak muscles bearing all that extra weight. Most deffonatly start with good posture, sounds petty but it makes a hugeee differance.
head over shoulders, shoulders over hips, hips over knees and knees overancles.
when sitting do the same and try to engage your stomach to support your frame.
i also have tried acouple differant diets that worked very well, i really recomend doing dumbell routeens. even if you dont have weights you have hundreds of things around your house that you can use. at a site onlinemarketing123abc they offered alot of programs and advise i found realy helpfull. i found this through a bing eatting site and it really helped me get incontroll...
best of luck! keep your head up!

Honestly nothing pisses me off more than people who blame all their problems on other people. Take some God damn initiative and just go for a run you pussy, if you really want to get in shape you'll ignore the pain.

Carbs is what burns off first when you exercise. try this, eat small meals, but when you work out on a daily babis your body needs food every 3 hours. when i get a craving for fatty foods i run a couple laps around my house, and it makes me not want the fats any more. exercise as often as possible. Any other questions hun just post em! ~Elway~

Your body will start to convert its proteins into energy. What happens then? well, you start to burn muscle, which is bad news if you want to keep that weight off.
Please keep this in mind before you start a no carb diet like the Atkins or others.

8/20/2004 7:50:43 PM | I am not an expert in any way shape or form but as someone who really needs to lose 120 lbs as well as being a mom of an 18 yr old, I'd like to offer my 2 cents worth... I have a lot of problems with my ankles and knees with my weight but I have found that the only way to begin to lose the weight is 1st of all, drink your water... plenty of it! everytime I pee, I drink a glass of water and several times inbetween. Avoid sugary juices and sports drinks... those are okay for athletes. Eat more veggies and less fatty foods.... in most cases veggies, frozen or fresh, are less expensive to get than fatty foods or junk... go with your dad when he shops and see to it that you get nutritious foods... maybe call a local health unit for advice. And WALK.... walk as much as you are able to.... even if that is only 10 mins to start off. Time yourself... walk away from your house for 5 mins, then turn around and walk back... Go farther as you are able to, but do it daily, even a couple times a day if you can.... aerobic exercise will help burn fat off fast as well as strengthen you heart and lungs.. push yourself to do it a bit without overdoing it. Only YOU know what you are really able to do... but try your hardest. You seem to want to do this so make it happen for yourself.. You can do it! And it doesn't have to cost anything extra. If you have a free ad paper, place an ad that need to lose weight and need an exercise bike at a low cost or donated and you'd be surprised that someone might call with an offer. And also... if you have any access to a place to swim, that is the BEST exercise you can do. No stress on your body and lots of benifits. Hope some of this helps... I do know how you feel.. it is hard, but as a mom of a teen, I know that I would want to help as much as I could, I am sure your dad will too if you can get it across to him how important this is to you. Just keep trying and never give up... you are so worth every effort! Darlene grumpyzoo@sympatico.ca e-me anytime! (Zookeeper)

Great advice, I agree completely with you.
You must start to think more positively of what you CAN do. You keep focusing on things that you can't. You also sounds like a smart guy so use that intelligence and come up with ways to reach your goals.
Thanks again for your post Kyle/Annie

I do believe however, that your weight loss MUST begin with you taking some control over your own life. It sounds like you're blaming the people in your life (your dad, your teachers) for your issues - and you need to start looking to yourself to make changes. You are 18 years old - a legal adult - which means you have many more options than you realize. Getting out of your house, for one. There are actually mail-from- home jobs posted in the newspaper, that you might be able to do in the time being in order to make some money to move out. I think there is a small fee to get started - and you can make a decent amount of money depending on how much you mail.
Also - starving yourself is NOT the option. Eating is just as important for losing weight as it is for gaining. It keeps your metobalism going. Try and lower your portions when you eat meals - and go for whatever healthy /low fat options you can within your house - vegetables, pasta with sauce, cereal, egg whites. There are always ways to eat healthy if you try and get creative.
Good luck! I really hope your situation improves.

7/27/2004 5:41:07 PM | Keep trying. I was in and around 190, and 5-6 months later, 140. What people said about the bike is right, biking will help to kill off excess fat. If you have the money, wait for a flyer and savings and try to make an all day thing of walking to your nearest bike store. It may hurt, and be a pain in the butt, but biking home will feel great (even if you think you look dumb). And with a bike, you may be able to bike to your nearest town to get healthy food, and your cardio is already covered. Sorry I can't help more.. don't give up!

7/18/2004 5:46:42 PM | I feel bad for your situation. But don't let your dad push you around. Do you only live with him? Here's what to do:
Get some money and go into town, via taxi, bus, friends, etc. and buy some healthy foods that you want. Hint: Buy no name brand stuff, far cheaper and just as good. Also, when you're in town, like another person said, get a knee brace. There may also be something you can take for back pain relief. Advil or something. And if you really can't do ANYTHING at all like that, just take a 10-20 lbs bag of potatoes and do some reps with it. Or take some cans of food and lift those as weights. I've seen people start off like that. Once you have enough arm strength, do some push ups everyday, I'd recommend atleast 100 each day. After a little while you'll have lost a little weight, combining (hopefully) good food and push ups. If you continue this routine or one similar to it, hopefully you'll do just fine. Eventually, maybe you could move into town and go to the gym a few days a week. I hope everything turns out good for you, pal.

Are you male or female? this will affect your routine and results from it alot. as far as eating try eating less of the fatty foods and smaller portions. and last never give up on yourself and dreams.

3/9/2004 2:26:16 PM | 1) I've been trying to get my dad to buy me the excercise equipment for almost 6yrs.. and he won't do sh*t. I never said he couldn't afford anything... Pricing isn't the problem, just the fact he DOESN'T WANT TO, and DOESN'T CARE about my well-being... if he did... I would be alot healthier... and have a better life. He's a stubborn bast.. yeah...
2) I can't go to the docs for any braces.. again.. my dad doesn't care about my well-being.. I haven't even been able to get my yearly check-up in about 3yrs because of him.
3) I've tried everything from getting him to write a "good" grocery list.. to even me writing it and setting it on the table.. he just goes ahead and throws the piece of paper away and rewrites his own list.
4) Walking speed doesn't matter in terms of the pain in my back... I can walk slow as heck and go as fast as heck and still have alot of pain in my back in a short amount of time... It's to the point where it's just too dam painful to walk at all... especially when the weight tugs on your bad lower back muscle. And for your info.. I move around about every 30mins to an hour.. just with a few "rest stops" here and there.. meaning.. standing when the pain is too intense... then start walking around again. It only takes about 2mins or so for the pain to go away.. but it hurts really really bad for the time.
5) What foods would YOU consider as high in protein and fiber? And what would you consider is a good amount of fiber and protein? 40g? 15g? What? Maybe there's some sort of food here my dad buys that might be good.. but I won't know until I get this info first.
Again.. I can't do anything on my own.. I HAVE to depend on my dad until I'm able to get out of this h*llhole.. whenever that will be..... I have no friends around here.. I live 3 miles from the local rural town, and 30 miles from the big city... I haven't been to school for about 5yrs... I quit going 'cause I wasn't gonna pass because the teachers refused to help me on my schoolwork.. mainly math though.. so I kept on failing. I have no high school education/diploma, no job, no money of my own, no driver's license.. or even a learner's permit for that matter... I don't have a mom.. she died 9yrs ago.. So I can't depend on her.. my stepmom lives all the way in Mississippi.. and I can't see her 'cause I live around 2,100 miles away from her.. she left because of the crap my dad was doing...
But then again... you don't know everything I've been through in my life.. so it doesn't seem like you can really understand what I've been through.. 'cause it seems like you haven't had an abusive life.
So.. what CAN I do? I've been trying to lose weight for almost 6-7yrs.. no luck..
1) What foods are alright to eat in terms of protein and fiber?
2)How much should I move around a day even though I move around every 30mins to an hour and sometimes every 2hrs to stretch out and walk around some more and play with my 3 cats..
3) How much weight should I start lifting to HELP? I may not have any of those weight lifting equipment crap.. but I could probably subsitute something for that... I need more arm strength to be able to do push-ups.. I can only do like 1-2 push-ups at the most right now...
And anything else that YOU can tell me what I could do...
