Olestra is a sucrose polyester which means a combination of sugar and fatty acids. Your body cannot digest Olestra and thus, it is calorie free. Since Olestra does not get digested some people have mild to severe diarrhea.

Some of the problems with Olestra is that it doesn't allow your body to digest fat-soluble vitaminees, beta carotene. Since that discovery the FDA has forced all products containing Olestra to be fortified with vit A,D,E and K.

Keep in mind that fat is essential for our bodies to survive. Not only with lubrication in our joints (oils), but its energy is vital.
