'Core' Nutrients

Author: Sarah Marshall H.BSc CPT
Protein, Fat, and Carbs together are referred to as the ?core? nutrients. If nutrition information appears on a food label , maufacturers are required to provide energy and core nutrient information, at minimum. Although you may see other nutrients listed on the label, the core nutients are the only ones which provide calories. This is especially true for fat, since it contains more than double the calories of either protein and carbs. Take special note of the TOTAL FAT in the product to help you make lower fat food choices.
