Look for lower fat choices before ordering. Foods served with gravy, cream or cheese sauces are typically high in fat. Fried and deep fried foods are higher in fat compared to foods that are steamed, poached, baked, broiled or roasted. Pasta dishes such as fettuccini, lasagna and risotto are higher in fat than pasta served with tomato-based sauces or vegetables.
Request that high fat extras be served on the side so you can control high fat items such as butter, salad dressing, sour cream or gravy.
Finally if you cannot resist dessert opt for fresh fruit, sorbet, sherbet or frozen yogurt.
