Supplement Reviews Below is a list of supplement reviews and we have tried our best to include related research studies to back up our claims.
What are supplements?
Supplements are 'dietary aids' meant to be used in addition to your regular diet. The problem with today's view on supplements is that we are missing more vitamins and minerals than what we actually do require. Naturopaths have access to labs that conduct studies on your blood to see if you are actually missing these nutrients. This blood test is approximiately $400-$600, but it may just save the money that you 'pee' out.
The most useful weight loss supplements
We consider useful to mean that it can be backed up by relevant double blind studies and the findings can be repeated. These types of supplements have an extreme value for anyone looking to lose weight. In no particular order these are:
- Green Tea
- Fish Oil
- Thermogenics such as (synephrine, caffeine, guarana and bitter melon) but cycling every 2-3 weeks is necessary.
Other useful foods for weight loss include foods that help neutralize the effects of insulin. These foods include: lemon juice, cinnamon and vinegar. You should not forget the benefits of having a negative calorie balance.
The most useful supplements for muscle building
Protein
The most powerful supplement for muscle building is protein
(Note: muscle building requires approximately 1.2-2g of protein per kilogram of body weight). Foods can provide the best source of protein and should be your first source. Next to eggs, tuna, chicken breast, turkey and wild pacific salmon should be whey protein isolate before during and after an intense muscle building workout.
Simple Carbohydrates
Simple carbohydrates should be used as 'tools' to help grow muscle. They should be centered around the workout and only that time. These carbohydrates help increase insulin levels which is useful ONLY after exercise to help the muscle building effects of protein.
The list of muscle building supplements
Below is a list of supplements which are known to have the greatest effects on muscle building that are safe.
- Whey Protein Isolate
- Creatine Monohydrate
- HMB
