I'm going to make this simple. Marijuana will NOT harm your muscle building; providing you don't smoke the marijuana, but rather eat(cooked with healthy fatty oil) or brew a tea. You will experience similar results, especially if you allow a grace period of not using marijuana. All the problems these post associate with marijuana are not related to the compound THC(intoxicating compound found in marijuana), but rather a side effect of Carbon Monoxide(CO). You can still use marijuana and not harm your body. I'm a graduate student at UC Davis, getting my in Bio Tech to put it simply. There is no drug that has had more research than Marijuana. The person that said smoking marijuana is better than tobacco is high. The only difference between the two, is the volume of exposure. A cigarette smoker likely smokes (inhales considerable more CO) than the avg. pot head. Smoking anything will cause side effect. To the user no_nick; who said you will "depression reduction" if you quite using marijuana, that will not be the case for most people and if a doctor proscribed you marijuana, you should obtain an depression medication before quitting, because likely you will become overwhelmed by your depression if you stopped taking it cold turkey. The reason is, your body has been depressed and all the chemistry that causes your depression remain although THC provided relief. Think of it as headache, you take a pain killer and the pain subsides
four hours later the pain returns worse then ever. Depression is a serious and should be treated. THC will NOT alter your estrogen levels or testosterone. Mikeherman I was cracking up when you said you got tested for Cadmium Toxicity (this is a cancer causing build up of certain mineral in your body to put very simply) You must have been a cigarette smoker, because the amount marijuana you who have to smoke, would be huge (unless maybe your stash was laced with something) Cadmium Toxicity is caused by smoking and not THC. This is more of a worry for children exposed to second hand cigarette smoke because there body can't process hinge level of Cadmium and could build depending on exposure or an adult that worked in a industrial setting where heavy metals were being vaporized. If a joint a night gave you Cadmium Toxicity, than you may be very acceptable to cadmium(that means don't smoke anything! You will have a high likelihood of getting cancer). Its more likely you miss understood what the doctor told you, unless the doctor checked your kidneys. I have taken THC for anxiety and I have to say it helped me through some tough times, it allowed me to remain relaxed so I could focus. You might think that sounds odd and that is because you you never had a need for THC, but rather used in for recreation. And I guess it's important to remember that every drug, even a prescription drug, is going to be altered by your own chemistry and thus each individual will have a different reaction. For me personally THC helped me get up and out the door, I don't like to be around large groups of people, so THC made lecture a breeze and it also helped me study, I could site down for hours just reading. I stopped because I got a job that does urine test. I will probably never use it again, only because of the employment risk. If you are worried about testosterone level avoid alcohol first and foremost! it can take 14 days for normal testosterone levels return after heavy drinking. Its also important to avoid sex, only have an orgasm every 8th day and on the 7th workout hard, because your testosterone levels are peaking! You can also jerk without a release prior to workouts to get a testosterone boost. NEVER do anything that could effect your coordination before a workout.

Hey guys, Im doing P90X for the second time around. In between this and the first round, ive taken 3 weeks off. I smoked a lot of weed in that period. a few bong hits every night, or half a joint every night. Coming back to the program, today was day 1, i couldn't even get through the first workout, and i had JUST completed this rigorous excersise regime just 3 weeks prior. id like to quit smokin pot, but theres not enuf evidence on either side to suggest that i should quit or keep smoking. I wil have to suffer i guess. bc i learned one thing FOR SURE **smoking weed everyday, even if its a bit at night off a pipe or bong, WILL reduce your cardiovascular endurance. so this means my muscles cant get the full workout they need to build bc my heart is so burnt out half way thru my workout. i think that is what ppl are missing. it dosent effect muscle growth, i dont believe it effects testosterone (at the amount i use) but IT DOES effect endurance. this is my experience

I guess Michael Phelps busted this myth. Anyways dont smoke it...Cook it into butter, and add it to baking recipies then eat it. Much better that way.

I suppose smoking pot is more like a fashion expression than addiction; we just want to be coo and b like everyone else around us. From personal experience, yes, it provides the most relaxing feeling you ever felt, but marijuana took a hold of me without even noticing. It quickly became a daily dose or habit and I slowly became isolated from the society. I am a very determined person so as soon as I noticed I quit smoke weed. There are countless benefit of quiting smoking. For example: Clearer thinkin smoother breathin more articulate improved memory deal with stressful situations increased energy and ability depression reduction deeper interaction with your loved ones no more munchies confidence boost no more feeling like a loser better focus increased ability to control yourself a lot of spare time less sleep needed an awful lot of free cash better lreations with your partner improved ability to learn reduction of paranoia safre driving no hassle of finding decent marijuana :) no need to associate with dark characters like dealrs not supporting organizedcrim, there is a lot of awful things that go on behind the scenes for your weed IMPROVED LEVEL OF FITNESS confidence to take on any task be more lively and outgoing in all aspects of life increased motivation for self improvement feeling of being whole without a drug dependancy no more quilty feeling amazing dreams (because your brain isnt frazzled while you sleep) an awful lot more energy and will power I can go on for days and trust me the list goes on..... I quite smoking pot and cigarette and never touched it again - you can do it too. Cheers! "How old are you? How old do you feel you are? How old your body is?

I disagree with the statement about working your abs constantly is the key to building great abs. Abdominals are muscles just like any other muscle, and muscles grow after being broken down and when they are at rest. Would you work your legs everyday??? NO, you don't because if you are breaking them down everyday, they can't recover and grow. The key here is mind/muscle connection, and breaking them down and training them like a muscle group..meaning doing a good 16- 20 sets,,the best way is to superset them with another bodypart, ie, chest/abs. That is how you get great abs!

To investigate possible effects of chronic marijuana use on reproductive and stress hormones, we assayed testosterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, prolactin, and cortisol in 93 men and 56 women with a mean age of 23.5 years. Hormone values were compared among groups of subjects stratified according to frequency of marijuana use (frequent, moderate and infrequent; N = 27, 18, and 30, respectively) and non-using controls (N = 74). Chronic marijuana use showed no significant effect on hormone concentrations in either men or women. And I believe I read that someone researched this and found that it negatively affected testosterone?

Im glad I stumbled upon this thread because im trying to kick my cannabis habit. I haven't been to the gym in about 7 years mainly because I smoke up everyday. Im going back to the gym soon and want to build my feel good hormones the natural way.. but i know it will be tough to quit. Funny thing is.. cannabis is like a double edge sword, when used everyday for years it throws the mind and body off. But when used in moderation, with discipline it can benefit incredibly. Here is some info about cannabis that ive learned over the years.. -- Cannabis dilates the blood vessels throughout the body, starting at the lungs (which would make sense that more oxygen would be available for cells. Once induced it creates excitability, increasing heart rate. In my opinion cannabis is awful for working out while stoned. It would make sense to induce it hours after a workout instead of during. -- Does cronic pot use decreases testosterone? I would agree on that to a certain extent. Cannabis definitely increases estrogen.. so therefore thats not what a body builder needs. And I agree on the previous posters comment "which is why most guys who are potheads don't have steady girlfriends." -- Cannabis tends to give cronic users Cadmium toxicity. I know this because ive researched it and ive had my own hair analysis done. -- Your better off to smoke cannabis then tobacco, bar none. Tobacco constricts the lungs, cannabis expands them. --

Think about what you are asking here; We are talking about a substance which 1. You light on fire and inhale hot smoke into your lungs affecting how well your lungs can absorb oxygen for the muscles. 2. The effect of marijuana is to make you lose ambition, drive and priorities such as sticking to a diet that is conducive to building muscle. 3. It has been proven that marijuana lowers production of testosterone which is vital to muscle development which is why most guys who are potheads don't have steady girlfriends. 4. Anything which places physical stress on the cardiovascular system has a detrimental effect on the ability to build muscle. 5.Spend your money on whey protein instead of pot-you'll see better results.

Marijuana places stress on your cardio vascular system and other body systems. If you are a daily user, your body is under a constant load of chronic stress. While there is no studied relationship between marijuana use and muscle building, there is plenty of information about stress and it's impairment of healthy tissue regeneration and body functioning in general. I'm not saying it's impossible to build muscle while smoking up, just that it won't help and may very well hurt your efforts. You're not ever going to become any kind of super athlete if you keep up the habit. You will almost definitely get better results if you kick the habit. Don't kid yourself though, marijuana addiction affects your life in exactly the same way as any other addiction. The effects of marijuana addiction are slower to manifest than with other substances and this makes it harder to identify. Even though you remain a functioning member of society, you will slowly begin to prioritize your life around the bong. Everyone makes time for what's important to them and as marijuana becomes more important, it takes up more time, displacing more constructive pursuits such as body building for example. I'm not proud to say it, but I know this from personal experience. Many people can have just a hoot or two at a party once in a while. For some people though, marijuana becomes an addiction (10% actually) Trust me, it's really really hard to quit, but your life will get way harder than that if you don't. Life's just better sober. Hope this helps.

how ever it does do great things for your co-ordination , because the THC stimulates the release of dopermine in the central nervous system, which means that signals from your brain are traveling more fluidly enable you to co-orrdinate better, how its funny because it has such an effect that if you just sit and relax and try not to move it will make you start twitching, its really funny.

hi all, i am a fitness trainer and at some point or an other i used to smoke.the conclusion i came to is that, when you smoke alot to the point that you are dependent, take a small break and cut down to one before you go to bed, like that the built frustration can be used as a sort of motivation to work out,but seriously it has no real effects of building muscle, its actually kinda harm full if you are doing strength training because thc(tetra, hydra, cannabinol) the chemical inside smoke which makes you high is actually a muscle relaxer.and making your muscles lift heavy loads when they are under the influence of a muscle relaxer is basically asking for an injury.it could easily lead to a tear. as for the effects on cutting and muscular undurance training(or slow twich fibres)well i dont see too much harm coming out of that, accept i doubt it would help especially if you dont feel like training. But like the other guy said it all depends on the persons will to work out.anyway thats all from bye for now

Listen to me people, it's not how many repetitions you can do that counts when doing your crunches, what you need to do is interact with your muscles, engage them. Just because you can do more repetitions while crunching when you're high doesn't neccessarly mean you're getting a good work out, you may be working out and not doing much at all. Or do twice the amount of repetitions when you're high and make sure you go untill you can't even lift yourself. The key to building great abs is to work them constantly.

I train in San Shou/MMA, three days a week, and hit weights 3 seperate days a week and work fulltime at a very physically demanding job. I smoke 3.5 grams every other day, I'd say it doesn't effect muscle growth much if any, people tell me im "ripped" and can't believe me smoking habits. If you smoke pot, you have to eat more to satisfy your metablolism, can't get high before any workout or untill 1.5 hours after. Without weed I would not be able to handle the mental/physical frustration and stress. You have to learn to become motivated when ur high too, just to keep urself motivated at all times...Weeds nowhere near as bad as alcohol I've found.
